Socialism – Do You Really Want It?

What is socialism?

It is defined as a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

What does socialism mean in simple terms?

Socialism is an economic system where the ways of making a living (factories, offices, etc.) are owned by a society as a whole, meaning the value made belongs to everyone in that society, instead of a group of private owners. People who agree with this type of system are called socialists.

Socialism means production to satisfy human needs, not as under capitalism, for sale and profit. Socialism means direct control and management of the industries and social services by the workers through a democratic government based on their nationwide economic organization.

Some examples of Socialism would be as follows:

The former Soviet Union is an example of a socialist system. Cuba is an example of a socialist nation. Its economy is state run and it lacks a stock exchange. … The country of North Korea is a socialist state, lacking a stock exchange, supporting many social programs, and the economy is state-run.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. A Socialist country is a country where the government or the public as a whole has control over the economy. In a socialist country, the producing and dispersing of goods is owned by the government. Socialism is placed in between capitalism and communism.

Now I am not a scholar of political forms of government – I leave that to the political science majors such as my brother, Ed Nix.  However, there is much in the internet (positive and negative) that can help you decide.  Here is just one example:

Now there are a lot of people on the So-called Left that would like to see America go to a socialist form of government.  Really?  What about some of these folks:  I picked this up from Variety Magazine online:

drama-chart

comedy-chart

And how about these news anchors and others that I was also able to get from both Variety and Insider.com

News Anchors

Do you really think these folks would want the Government or Society telling them how much they could accumulate or earn in a given period of time?  I don’t!

Some of you reading this may find some of these earnings or net worths outrageous.  I say if people are willing to pay this much to one person in a year – so be it – if it does not endanger or hurt another.

Now you may remember I wrote a rant recently about the high cost of education and the outrageous amounts being paid to college football coaches as compared to the amount being paid to college professors as well as how I believe some of this compensation paid to coaches is what is causing college tuitions to go “out of sight.”  If you did not read that article, you can get it here.

But as far as socialism is concerned … when you review the list above and see those on the left who could (I did not say would) lose their current livelihood and lifestyle if socialism were our selected system … well, you have to wonder why they would even entertain the thought.

When you see those on the list that are right-leaning and wanting capitalism to be our system here in America … you can certainly see why they want it to continue!

Yes, I know some on the list are no longer with the news agency, or show, shown in the list … but, I simply duplicated what I found in my research.

So the question remains … Do you want socialism or are you content with capitalism.  As for me, I prefer the latter.

Thanks for reading,

Jerry Nix
